ABA Therapy 101

 

What?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to the study and change of behavior.  ABA therapy focuses on improving socially significant behaviors through systematic assessment and behavioral intervention.  The goal is to decrease challenging behaviors while increasing appropriate behaviors by using positive reinforcement strategies that are scientifically proven to work in almost all cases.  Data on behavior change is constantly collected and used to evaluate progress.  Treatment decisions are made based on the data that is collected.

ABA methods are used to very effectively teach communication skills, safety skills, social skills, and self-help skills which ultimately lead to increased independence and better quality of life for individuals and their families.

When?

Use ABA procedures anytime you want to teach new skills and see lasting behavior change!

Where?

Use ABA techniques anywhere behavior occurs!  Such as in the clinic, home, school, and community (shopping, medical visits, restaurants, hair salons, etc.)

Who?

ABA therapy can be used with individuals of all abilities/disabilities and of all ages across the lifespan!

Why?

​

Years of research show that ABA methods are highly effective in promoting behavior change across countless different individuals and in numerous environments.  ABA strategies work without the use of medications.  ABA is so effective that it is covered by health insurance companies as an effective form of treatment for behavioral health.
